About Us

Why we’re here

Between the rapid proliferation of public data sources, the enormous quantity of data produced by laboratory equipment and the implementation of ever-complex algorithms, researchers are increasingly relying on computationally-intensive tools and techniques to achieve their research goals.

NCISF was founded in recognition of this trend and the importance that it plays in the future of biological research. Our mission is to fill the computational support and training needs of the research community and to facilitate the further adoption of computational techniques.

What makes us different

The field of bioinformatics has distinguished itself not only for its importance but also its unique and varied nature. Arising from the intersection of several historically separate disciplines, bioinformatics now stands at the frontier of these fields. In this same sense, the role of NCISF transcends that of traditional support organizations. Our staff consists of computational biologists, bioinformaticians, and IT professionals and regularly draws on these skill sets to meet the needs of our customers.

Finally, just as the field of bioinformatics continues to evolve, so does the role of NCISF. As computational training becomes an established part of the life sciences curriculum, the needs of our customers continue to change as does the focus of our support activities. Similarly, as the field embraces new paradigms such as “cloud” computing and web services, NCISF will continue to meet the support demands of these new technologies.

How to acknowledge us

Our passion is making your bioinformatics analyses a success, and if we’ve helped you do that, we encourage you to acknowledge us in your publications. Below is some sample text you can use. You are welcome to modify it as much as or as little as you like for your particular situation.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the BRAEMBL/NCISF in St Lucia, QLD, Australia and the use of the High Performance Computing Cluster “Barrine” to complete this research.

We’d also love to hear from you personally. If you have any feedback or testimonials you would like to share about your support experience, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
